Pray the St. Andrew Christmas Novena

The Christmas Novena is a 25-day novena. And if you are used to praying novenas, you should notice something odd about that. Novenas usually last nine days. This one is an exception. 

The origins of this novena are mysterious. There are some traditional novenas before Christmas that have existed for centuries. But it’s difficult to find much information about this prayer. 

To pray the novena, repeat the following prayer 15 times per day. Begin on November 30, the feast of St. Andrew and end on Christmas Day.

The Christmas Novena Prayer 

Hail and blessed be the hour and moment 
In which the Son of God was born 
Of the most pure Virgin Mary, 
at midnight, 
in Bethlehem, 
in the piercing cold. 
In that hour vouchsafe, O my God, 
to hear my prayer and grant my desires, 
[here mention your request] 
through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ, 
and of His blessed Mother. Amen.
